ROOTS

Roots is an American TV mini-series based on Alex Haley's novel, Roots: The Saga Of An American Family. Expectations for the show were low, so the eight episodes were aired one per day between 23rd and 30th January 1977 ~ however, the first seven episodes attracted an average audience of 80 million, with 100 million Americans watching the final episode. Roots picked up a prestigious Golden Globe award, for Best Series - Drama.

A sequel, Roots: The Next Generations, was a seven episode mini-series that aired in 1979, and a TV film Roots: The Gift, followed in 1988.

In 2016, the History channel produced a remake of Roots, but the focus of this collection is the original 1977 mini-series.
